This cafe is quietly tucked away in Setagaya-Ku, Tokyo. It is popular for its cute Totoro cream puffs which come in different flavors such as Custard and Fresh Cream, Chestnut, Caramel Banana Cream, Peach Cream, Matcha Cream, Chocolate and Raspberry, and Cream Cheese. There are also other flavors to choose from and their availability changes every season.
Each cream puff costs 400-440 yen depending on the flavor. Some items which are available for all seasons are Custard and Fresh Cream (400 yen) and Chocolate Cream (400 yen). It is said that the process of making the cream puff is quite difficult as it needs a lot of time. The cafe normally sticks to domestic products when it comes to the raw materials, such as the wheat flour that they use which comes from Hokkaido and Ishikawa Prefecture.
Their fresh cream and butter also come from Hokkaido. The cream puffs are normally stored at 10 degrees Celsius or less on the day of purchase. The number of items per day is quite limited so it is important to make a reservation in advance. Aside from cream puffs, the cafe is also selling cookies and cakes.
The cookies are baked carefully and are produced in different shapes which make them ideal for souvenirs. Cakes also come in different varieties such as Malon Tart Cake and Strawberry Shortcake. They should be reserved 2-3 days in advance. This cafe is open from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and is closed on Tuesdays.
Les Grands Arbres is a nature-filled cafe that is beautifully whimsical. It looks like a mini-forest in the middle of Tokyo’s high-rise buildings. The cafe is attached to a huge tree, which makes it look enchanting. It has a tree house which you can climb and explore. It is surprisingly well-maintained.
The interiors are mostly made of wood and are decorated according to the changing seasons. Their most popular spot is the terrace which has a romantic garden. It is surrounded by many plants and flowers which make everything breathtaking. They are popular for their tea time menu which is from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. They are also popular for their thick-sliced pancakes topped with caramelized nuts. You can also try their matcha fondant cake which really tastes good!
As expected, the place is often full so it is important to make a reservation in advance. So, if you’re on the lookout for healthy dishes and relaxation in the middle of a bustling city, head to this tree house cafe, which is open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Visiting these two cafes will make you feel like you’ve been taken into another world. Just like most Japanese cafes, they also embody the cuteness of the Japanese culture. They’re ideal pit stops for nature lovers and those wanting to keep their minds relaxed. They can also be fun places to hang out with your friends.
