Music festivals are a great way to alleviate stress by listening to your favorite music with other happy, excited people. It’s fun to go a little crazy when you see musicians you love live and be able to sing and dance along with them. Japan has a good amount of music festivals, such as EDC Japan and SUMMER SONIC, where people can take a break from their busy lives to unwind with their friends and some great tunes.
If you are the kind of person who enjoys loud and exciting music events, are you planning to go to Fuji Rock Festival in Niigata this summer 2018?
This event is one of the biggest music events in the country and has been held annually since 1997. Every year, it is attended by around 100,000 to 150,000 people, and that number is steadily increasing each year. About 90 minutes from Tokyo by train, Fuji Rock is held at Naeba Ski Resort, with just one indoor stage.
Aside from the music festival, there is also a hot spring and some nature walks here in case you need a breather. This 2018, Fuji Rock Festival will be from the 27th to the 29th of July.
So far, we know several bands and acts who will be appearing at Fuji Rock Festival ’18. These include Skrillex, N.E.R.D, Vampire Weekend, Starcrawler, Bob Dylan and his band, and Kendrick Lamar. More acts will be announced closer to the time.
Recently it seems that Fuji Rock Festival is branching out to other genres as well as keeping the traditional rock vibe.
The earlier you purchase Fuji Rock tickets, the cheaper they are! You can buy early bird tickets here (for people outside Japan) at discount prices, but be quick as they sell out fast! For those in Japan, tickets can be bought here.
Attending a festival is enormous fun, but you have to make sure you are prepared so your day isn’t spoiled. Here are some essential tips for going to Fuji Rock:
- Be organized. Know where you are staying and what transportation you are getting. Make a note of your schedule and stick to it.
- Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. You will be walking, dancing, and jumping a lot during your time here. Avoid heels or other uncomfortable clothing.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Wear sunscreen. July in Japan is hot and the festival is held mostly outdoors.
- Take plenty of money and keep it safe.
- Know where you are staying. There is a campsite that you can stay in if it’s included in your ticket, and local hotels fill up quickly. Decide early whether you are staying the night or not and book early to avoid disappointment.
From Tokyo, the easiest way to get to Fuji Rock is by bullet train. Disembark at Echigo-Yuzawa Station. However, take care if you are planning on going back to Tokyo by bullet train as the last train leaves before the last band plays. You can get a shuttle bus from the station to the festival site for 500 yen.
If you get a package deal, the bus may be included. However, the bullet train usually works out at around the same price and is much faster.
You can also rent a car and drive up there. Parking fees are 3,000 yen a day so unless you are traveling with a group and splitting the price, the train might be a better option.
Get ready for the exciting Fuji Rock Festival ’18! It’s going to be an exciting time for music lovers this summer as they meet new people and listen to some awesome music. Are you ready for it?
