    Mannendo is a famous Japanese sweets store that is located in Ginza and has been around providing traditional wagashi to both local and foreign enthusiasts for quite a long time.

    Mannendo was originally established in 1617, around 400 years ago in Kyoto. The store specializes in providing Japanese wagashi for the imperial family during the time and the store has moved as well when the emperor went from Kyoto to Tokyo.

    Mannendo specializes in making traditional Japanese sweets that change with the/Users/haraguchiyuuya/Desktop/castle-keep-fish-himeji.jpg seasons but the store also sells western and hard candies. Mannendo is famously known for their most esteemed product “Omedetou”, which means “congratulations” in Japanese. The store has been making Omedetou, their oldest product since the 1600’s.

    The Omedetou’s appearance closely resembles Sekihan or Japanese red colored rice dish made with azuki beans which are eaten in Japan during celebrations or special occasions. Omedetou is also eaten during these special events.

    Mannendo is also known for their specialty product, the Kisetsu no Jounamagashi. These are high-grade Japanese confections that are usually sculpted mochi in seasonal designs with bean paste. Some of the seasonal products include the Sakura Mochi, Kusa Warabi, Tachibana and Nanohana Wagashi.

    Mannendo also specializes in making sweets for congratulatory or gift giving purposes. The store has certain traditions and regulations where they customize the products for certain purposes. In Japan, certain occasions make use of specific knots and wrappings.
