One of the most famous bands that has already been around since 1991 is SMAP, and as many of you know they were on the brink of splitting up early 2016, to the great devastation of many loyal fans. That crisis seems to have been averted, but SMAP is not the only band originating from the stable of Johnny & Associates that has gone through a rough patch lately.

It was reported that popular Johnny’s idol Taguchi Junnosuke (田口淳之介) will leave Johnny’s and his group KAT-TUN this coming Spring 2016. Taguchi Junnosuke himself announced this news on prestigious music show NTV Best Artist. The news has shocked his fans, causing KAT-TUN to trend on Twitter worldwide. Official statements from the agency and from the members of KAT-TUN were released after the show. Future activities for the remaining members are still being discussed, and further announcements have been promised.

KAT-TUN is an idol group that is originally comprised of six members, namely Kamenashi Kazuya, Akanishi Jin, Taguchi Junnosuke, Tanaka Koki, Ueda Tatsuya and Nakamaru Yuichi. Akanishi Jin left the group in 2010 to pursue a solo career outside Johnny and Associates. Another member, Tanaka Koki, left the group in 2013 and is currently active as a vocalist for a rock group called INKT.

The first T in KAT-TUN stands for Taguchi Junnosuke. Taguchi-san is specialized in Jazz dance and even does the choreography for the group. He also got popular when he co-starred in J-drama ‘Legal High’, along with the famous Sakai Masato and Aragaki Yui.

Although I’m more active as a fan in other fandoms now, I’m still a Johnny’s fan. I’ve been a KAT-TUN fan since 2007, and this news has shocked me. I never thought that Taguchi Junnosuke would leave since his career with KAT-TUN is still going strong, despite only having four members. Two members have already left KAT-TUN before, so this news did break the hearts of KAT-TUN fans once again. Although fans are regretful for what’s happening with KAT-TUN, many still support them whether they are a 6-member group, a 5-member group, a 4-member group and now, a 3-member group.
