The sakura-flavored ice cream will be sold from the 1st of March 2016 to the end of May 2016. In 1992, Baskin-Robbins actually had produced and sold sakura-flavored ice cream, but in the following years did not sell any sakura ice cream for spring. Hence, it has been 24 years since the public has last tasted sakura ice cream from Baskin-Robbins! This renewed version of the sakura ice cream is bound to attract a long queue of people who crave the taste of Baskin-Robbins’ sakura ice cream they tasted 2 decades ago.

    The Ice Cream

According to Baskin-Robbins, the taste of the ice cream is likened to that of the sakura mochi, which is rice cake that is flavored with cherry blossoms. The color of the ice cream is a sweet, baby pink which is reminiscent of strawberry ice cream. The production of this sakura ice cream incorporates the use of real sakura cherry leaves. In addition, a hint of salt is also added to the ice cream. The regular size of the ice cream will be priced at 360 yen but there may be slight variations in price depending on the stores.

The sakura-viewing experience will be enhanced by eating the sakura ice cream. If you happen to be in Japan, why not grab a sakura ice cream while enjoying the view of the sakura trees? It will be a once in a lifetime experience especially since it is uncertain if Baskin-Robbins will be releasing this sakura ice cream every year. They might just repeat history and stop selling the ice cream for many years!
