Everyone knows Japanese people love spring. What’s not to love? The short decent season after you freeze your tush off, and before you sweat off your other things. Oh, and cherry blossoms! Who could forget those? We are kinda crazy about them.
This year, for the first time ever, Starbucks has joined in the catering to Sakura-loving Japanese. Sakura. Latte. Sakura. Frappuccino. With strawberry. Need I say more?
The Sakura drinks were released on Feb 15th, 2016, and I couldn’t wait to get my grubby mitts on one of them. I waddled as fast as I could to the nearest Starbucks upon hearing the news, I do love a good sugar rush as much as the next guy!
I have to say, a fat man, drinking a big pastel pink drink on the Starbucks balcony gets some looks. Not the attention I was hoping for. But hey, I wanted to experience the wonder of the Sakura Latte. The verdict? The latte was extremely sugary! But, it was oh so good. A hint of cherry, strawberry, and a hint of flower, and some whipped cream for good measure. Check out the picture below, to get a full impression of what you are in for:
Next time, I am going for the Frappuccino, just look at the whipped cream on that thing! And the big straw to ensure you get all the goodness into your gob as quickly as possible. As a bonus, you don’t have to worry about burning your tongue on this one!
Who can drink a sugary drink without some cake? The cake in question being Sakura Chiffon Cake. Not so pricy at ¥380, and surely worth it. It wasn’t as overwhelming as the drink. I will be eating it again the next time, when I try the frappuccino. This time, I will get it to go, though. No more weird stares from the passersby.
For lovers of new flavours, and people addicted to cherry blossoms and strawberry, this is the drink for you. Limited time, great contrast for Instagram, and sweetly delicious. Try it while you can, before you know it, the blossoms will have fallen and we will be on to summer flavours.
