In line with its 20th anniversary, there are plans to release new material of anime ‘Cardcaptor Sakura’. On top of that, the anime series will be re-broadcast beginning from the 6th of April 2016 on NHK’s BS Premium Channel. Moreover, there will be 7 sketch books that are set to be released on the 23rd of March 2016, that consist of 3 Clow Key Books and 4 Clow Key Memo Sketch Pads that can be pre-ordered online here and here. However, most the most exciting part of the celebration will be the temporary opening of the Cardcaptor Sakura Cafés!
In collaboration with Animate Café, the Cardcaptor Sakura franchise plans to open 8 cafes in Japan for a short duration of time. The first cafes will be open in Ikebukuro (Tokyo) and Tenjin (Saitama) from the 1st of April till the 29th of May 2016. The other cafes will be open in Sendai and Okayama from the 1st of June 2016 to 29th of July 2016; Tennoji (Osaka) from the 1st of August 2016 to the 28th of September 2016; Animate Cafe Shop (Kyoto) from the 1st of September 2016 to the 28th of September 2016; and Ikebukuro (Tokyo) and Shinjuku (Tokyo) from the 1st of October 2016 to the 30th of October 2016.
The cafes will be serving food and drinks that are inspired by the Cardcaptor Sakura series. The pictures below give you a good idea about the kind of mouth-watering offerings that will be available at the cafes.
With the purchase of each item, there will be an accompanying coaster which features an anime character. There are 20 different coaster designs, and these will be given to the customers at random (so you can try to collect them all!). The first 10 designs will be given out in April while the other 10 designs will be available in May.
You can make a reservation online (in Japanese only) at E-Plus. The charge per person is 2000 yen which is inclusive of tax and exclusive merchandise.
Cardcaptor Sakura is a series by Clamp that has attracted a great fan following. The series is still loved by many fans after 20 years, so you may want to make an early reservation to ensure that you have a spot! Even if you are not a fan, you must be lying if you say that you are not attracted to the cute-looking food and drinks that will be served at the cafes!
