Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo’s land used to be the home of wild camelias which are flowering plants. It was featured by an artist named Ando Hiroshige in his woodblock print. The gardens were only formally established in 1861 with its name “Chinzanso” being given by Yamagata Arimoto, a field marshal in the Imperial Japanese Army. It was assigned to Baron Fujita Heitaro in 1918. However, the garden was destroyed during the World War II which led to its reconstruction in 1948 under Fujita Kanko (the founder of the hotel). In his vision, he imagined building a green oasis right in the middle of Tokyo. It was a hard task as it included the transportation of 10,000 trees!
