In the previous season which is spring time, many Japanese companies introduced new flavors which are mostly based on sakura. Now that summer is here, there are new things to look forward to! When it comes to McDonald’s Japan, the seasonal flavors are always interesting and do not disappoint. To celebrate the season of summer, a new flavor of McFlurry will be released in Japan!
Sakura is a common theme during the spring season as it is representative of the springtime in Japan. However, for summer time, travelers really have no idea what food represents Japan, so the new flavors might be pretty unexpected. What we do know is that citrus fruits are synonymous with summer. The new flavor of McFlurry that has been released is called the Hyuganatsu Cheesecake McFlurry. Hyuganatsu is a type of citrus fruit which supposedly stems from the hybrid of pomelo and Japanese yuzu citrus fruit. This unique fruit can be found in Miyazaki, Kyushu. Hyuga is the old name of Miyazaki while natsu means summer.
In this new addition of McFlurry, soft ice cream is blended with hyuganatsu sauce and cheesecake filling made from cheese sourced from Oceania. With the combination of juicy, citrus fruit with the sweet cheesecake, the flavor is sure to tantalize your taste buds. And that’s not all, as the cold dessert is also topped with sponge cake to create an even more delectable dessert which is perfect for the summer.
Just like the seasons that come and go, the seasonal offerings of McDonald’s come and go as well. The Hyuganatsu Cheesecake McFlurry will only be available during the summer of 2016 from the 1st of June to the end of July. However, customers living in Miyazaki were able to enjoy the dessert ahead of the official nationwide release date. The 17 branches in Miyazaki had already released the new dessert on the 27th of May! If you get the lucky chance to visit Japan during the summer, get this tasty dessert to help you cool off!
