Uradome Kaigan consists of a rocky, mountainous stretch of coastline situated a few kilometers east of Tottori Sand Dunes. It is one of the major San’in Kaigan Global Geoparks.
To start your day, visit the tourist information center located next to the north exit of Tottori train station to obtain all the necessary information; like bus schedule and a map.
Then, exit the train station from the north gate and turn left toward the bus station. At the bus station, take a local bus at platform 4. The bus journey takes about 45 minutes.
Please take note of these two get-off stations:
1. 遊覧船乗り場前 (yuuran-sen noribamae)
2. 浦富海岸口 (Uradome kaigan kuchi)
If you prefer seeing how the mighty nature has “molded” the hard rocks into pieces of arts of various shapes over time, a ferry ride along the coast may brighten up your day. So, stop at 遊覧船乗り場前 (yuuran-sen noribamae). After the ferry ride, you can move on to the beach by taking a bus.
Otherwise, directly get off at 浦富海岸口 (Uradome kaigan kuchi). From the bus station, you will reach the beach after walking for about 10 minutes.
As it was a summer vacation as well as a weekend when I got there, the beach was unsurprisingly overloaded with people. Along the beach spanning over a few kilometers, there are public showers, toilets and restaurants.
After a good frolic in the sea, hiking is another activity you may opt for. I must admit that the 4-hour hike was taxing and exhausting, however, the gorgeous views and the adventures definitely paid it off.
I strongly recommend this place to everyone. Perhaps summer is the best season of the year for a good swim and a challenging hike – “To kill two birds with one stone”.
