Many visitors from around the world have been known to be in awe of traditional Japanese hairstyles, especially those worn by geisha and maiko. Nonetheless, they seem far too difficult to learn or even attempt. So, to help with this, a special kit has been created which will make it even easier to recreate that traditional Japanese hairstyle you’re after.

In the past, the marumage hairstyle was commonly worn by married women in Japan, where it was a popular trend during the Edo period but not so much in recent times so may be more difficult to spot. However, some women still wear their hair in this style especially in formal events such as weddings.
A Marumage kit is priced at 8,800 yen and although it isn’t cheap, it’s worth it if you plan to use the traditional marumage hairstyle often.
The set includes:
- a red comb
- 1 large hair band
- 4 small hair bands
- 4 hair pins
- 3 hair pieces of which 2 are to be attached on the sides of your head and the other 1 for the back of your head
With this kit, the only other item you may need to top off your hairstyle is hair products such as oil, wax, or hairspray to hold it all in place.
If you’re still confused about how to recreate that traditional look, check out this video for more instructions!
So ladies, what do you think? Are you keen on giving the traditional Japanese marumage look a go? If so, check out this kit and start practicing because as they say, practice makes perfect!
