Hideo Kojima is a legendary game developer who has brought to us iconic games such as the Metal Gear series, Snatcher, and Policenauts. The news of him parting ways with Konami in 2015 left many fans devastated. However, not all is bleak as Kojima has not retired from creating games. The latest game that he has come up with is called Death Stranding!
In March 2015, it was speculated that Kojima would be leaving Konami after the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Soon after, Kojima’s name was removed from the subsequent marketing materials of the Metal Gear series. It was also reported that Kojima was barred from attending the Game Awards 2015 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, so when Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was awarded for being the Best Action Game and having the Best Score/Soundtrack, Kiefer Sutherland took the awards on behalf of Kojima.
Kojima Productions was then established as an independent studio. Kojima announced that the first game that would be released is Death Stranding which would be available on the PlayStation 4. He made the announcement at E3 2016 in Los Angeles. A teaser trailer for the game has been released here:
The opening of the trailer starts off with a poem by William Blake. Then, it shows a man known as Norman Reedus, lying naked on the beach with a baby and tons of dead fish. The trailer does not show any gameplay, but Kojima had stated that the game would involve a lot of action. However, it would not be a straightforward action game.
The trailer is very cryptic and confusing so fans have started to analyze what it means. What can you understand from the trailer? All I can think of is that Hideo Kojima should try getting his hands on directing a movie, as he seems capable of creating a movie a la Christopher Nolan’s style.
