“Kin” means gold in Japanese. So, “Kinkaku-ji” means “The Golden Pavilion”. It is a three-story building located in Rokuon-ji Temple. This is why the top two stories of the pavilion are covered with pure gold leaf. I have been there several times, and I could say that it’s better to go there during autumn or winter. During autumn, you can also see the red leaves around the temple, while during winter, the roof is covered with snow, and it is really beautiful.

In my case, I prefer to visit there during winter. It is really beautiful, isn’t it? If you want to go there, here is the information for the admission and their opening hours and closed days.

    Admission fees: 400 yen
    Opening hours: 9.00am to 17.00pm
    Closed: No closed days
    Access

In this temple’s main hall (Daibutsuden), there is a huge bronze statue of Buddha (15 meters tall). The statue is inside a hall, so can you imagine how big is the temple, which houses a statue with 15 meters tall?
