“Jigokudani Yaenkoen” is the official name of a Snow Monkey Park, which is located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. This park is one of the main tourists’ attractions in the area; there are so many unique wild monkeys who love to bathe in the park’s natural hot springs (known as “Onsen” in Japanese). Some of the hot springs even reach the temperature above 122 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a perfect temperature for the monkeys to warm up.
It is located in monkeys natural habitat, which is the forests of Jigokudani valley in Yamanouchi.
I have gone there once when I was at Tokyo. When I went there, I could easily spot the monkeys everywhere in that park. It is said that there are around 160 monkeys in that park. The most interesting part about visiting this park was, of course, watching them bathe in the hot springs. The hot spring is around 50 square meters in size.
This park is opened all year round, but if you want to take really good shots of bathing monkeys, I recommend you to go during the winter. It is better to visit the park around January or February.
It is about 2.5 km away from Shibu Onsen, and it is about 7 km from the Yudanaka station.
The fee is between 250 and 500 yen.
