With the hustle and bustle of life, there is a need for us to de-stress every once in a while. It can be as simple as cafe hopping, shopping, or taking a walk in a park, but in today’s world, consumers are always demanding for new and unique experiences. If you are looking for an interesting way to relax in Tokyo (東京), check out Konica Minolta Planetarium (コニカミノルタプラネタリウム) MANTEN’s (満天) new show called Star Night Healing (スターナイト・ヒーリング) in Ikebukuro (池袋)!
Konica Minolta Planetarium has two planetarium theaters known as MANTEN and TENKU (天空). Both of them are located in Tokyo and their main attractions are their “Relaxation Programs” which combine relaxing music and fragrance to soothe the senses. The theaters attract more than 400,000 visitors every year.
Konica Minolta Planetarium MANTEN is located in Sunshine City, Ikebukuro. It has 186 seats and the theater has been renewed three times, in the years 2007, 2011, and 2015. The installation of the optical projector Infinium Σ (インフィニウム シグマ) allows the theater to project the view of an enchanting starry sky. To enhance visitors’ experience of viewing the beautiful night sky, there are also new seats in the theater called “Lawn (芝)” and “Cloud (雲)” so visitors can gaze at the beautiful sky while lying on a large, comfortable sofa or on artificial grass.
On the other hand, Konica Minolta Planetarium TENKU is located inside Tokyo SKYTREE TOWN (東京スカイツリータウン). There are 212 seats in TENKU. In this planetarium, visitors can enjoy the view of the beautiful sky while relaxing on reclining chairs which are specially designed for TENKU. The chairs feature a mesh material to give a hammock-like experience so visitors would feel as if they are floating in outer space.
Konica Minolta Planetarium MANTEN will be featuring their new show called the Star Night Healing from 11 February to 29 October 2017. Different from their regular relaxation programs, visitors get to enjoy the view of a starlit forest sky along with the scent of essential oils which further heightens the experience. This amounts to a total rejuvenation for tired minds.
If you think the uniqueness ends there, let me tell you that the view of the forest sky is not just of any forest. The forest that is featured in this show is Yakushima (屋久島), which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you are familiar with Hayao Miyazaki’s (宮崎駿) works, you would have noticed that it is the forest that inspired the setting of Princess Mononoke (もののけ姫). It is certainly a breathtaking experience which visitors would enjoy while lying on the “Lawn” or “Cloud” seats.
As for the oils, they are not regular oils either. The oils are extracted from Yakushima’s Hinoki cypress which has a high content of phytoncide. Phytoncides are produced by trees to protect themselves against germs and harmful insects. Phytoncides also have therapeutic benefits for humans, such as reducing stress, improving immunity, lowering blood sugar, improving concentration, and reducing pain.
This 50-minute experience can be enjoyed at the price of 1,700 yen or higher, depending on the type of seat you choose. You may get the tickets at the planetarium or through this page here (Japanese only). In order to participate in the show, you need to be at least of elementary school age.
If you are feeling worn out from the stress of life, then you should definitely watch this show which will make you feel like you are in another world. The experience will definitely leave you feeling more rejuvenated!
