Lola’s Cupcakes is an extremely popular British cupcake brand, and they opened their first shop in Japan back in October 2015. This summer, Lola’s Cupcakes is attempting a new kind of summer dessert that you will definitely want to try out!
There are currently two Lola’s Cupcakes locations in Japan. The first store opened in Harajuku (原宿), the hub of pop culture next to Shibuya (渋谷), and was followed recently by a new Roppongi (六本木) location. The Harajuku shop is a two-minute walk from JR Harajuku Station (原宿駅) and the new Roppongi shop is within the Roppongi Hills (六本木ヒルズ) complex, which is directly connected to Roppongi Station (六本木駅) and a short five-minute walk from Azabu-Juban Station (麻布十番駅).
The cute, colorful, and of course delicious cupcakes from Lola’s are perfect for every occasion, such as souvenirs for friends and family members as a daily thank you, or a part of a gift for your sugar-loving friend on a special day. The lineup of cupcakes sold at Lola’s in Japan include the popular menu items from the original shops in London, but also include four limited-edition Japanese cupcakes that were created by a female patisserie to match the taste buds of the Japanese people.
Lola’s Cupcakes constantly has a lineup of approximately 15 cupcake flavors. The normal flavors that were brought from London are:
- Vanilla White
- Vanilla Pink
- Vanilla Blue
- Red Velvet
- Cookie & Cream
- Banoffi (made from the British dessert banoffi pie, made from banana and toffee)
- Blueberry Chocolate Raspberry
- Pistachio Raspberry
The flavors newly made when Lola’s came to Japan include the following:
- Tokyo Vanilla (東京バニラ)
- Blood Orange
- Matcha (抹茶)
- Mont Blanc
Mont Blanc is a seasonal flavor that only comes out when chestnuts are in season, so be careful when you are visiting the shop. In addition to these cupcakes, there are always additional seasonal items available that use fruits of the season or cupcakes modeled off of events of the season. Starting on June 1st 2017, they started selling a new flavor, Mint Choco (ミントチョコ). This refreshing, minty cupcake is perfect for the hot and humid summer season in Japan.
All of the cupcakes from Lola’s are available in two sizes, regular and tiny, so if you are wondering which flavor to get, you could go for multiple tiny-sized cupcakes to find which one is your favorite!
Also starting June 1st the Roppongi Hills shop will be selling new cupcake sundaes, while the Harajuku main shop has started selling cupcake shakes. The flavors available for the cupcake sundaes are chosen from the popular flavors, including matcha and blueberry and chocolate. Each sundae is made using a scoop of Haagen Dazs ice cream.
The flavors available for the cupcake shakes are:
- Red Velvet
- Cookies & Cream
The cupcake shakes are pretty unique in that they are made using an entire cupcake which is then thrown into the mixer along with other ingredients to make a cold and refreshing shake.
These new items that are now available starting June 1st are all refreshing and perfect to beat the summer heat in Japan. Personally, if you are wondering which flavor you should get, I highly recommend the Red Velvet cupcake. The Red Velvet cupcakes from Lola were honestly the moistest, fluffiest and most delicious cupcakes I have ever had! Why not treat yourself to a special British cupcake or shake this summer?
