The Japanese comedian, Pikotaro, who became internationally known due to his catchy music video and song called “PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)”, has released a new song for kids this summer. The song and music video are to promote the Perotto Ice DJ toy. Let’s find out more about it!
“I have a pen. I have an apple. Ugh! Apple pen.”
Does that sound familiar? If it doesn’t, then you had not been using the Internet often in 2016. That is a line from Pikotaro’s very famous “PPAP.”
Pikotaro’s actual name is Kazuhito Kosaka and he also uses the stage name, Daimaou Kosaka. “PPAP” was released on YouTube on 25 August 2016 which became viral and is now termed as the new “Gangnam Style.” The song became popular due to its catchy and bizarre lyrics. Needless to say, the song and its corresponding dance moves also spun many parodies which you can watch on YouTube.

The Perotto Ice DJ toy is a unique interactive toy for kids co-developed by TAKARA TOMY A.R.T.S and KORG. It is an interesting toy that enables kids to enjoy a frozen popsicle and plays music depending on how it is licked. There are two versions of the toy that produce different voices and styles – DJ GIRL which is yellow in color, and DJ BOY which is blue in color. With this toy, you can be a DJ just by licking a popsicle!
There is actually no ice pop included with the toy so kids are free to use their own choice of popsicle. This toy, powered by two AAA batteries, encourages children to have fun in the kitchen! Also, note that the type of popsicle may affect the type of sound produced. For instance, you are advised not to use popsicles with thick coatings of chocolate.
Pikotaro has been selected by TAKARA TOMY A.R.T.S to promote the Perotto Ice DJ toy. In the music video, Pikotaro is seen singing and dancing with four kids who are also wearing his signature costume.
The video also demonstrates how to use the toy which is by placing the popsicle onto the toy. However, it was kind of disappointing that the music produced from licking the popsicle is not played.
The music video advertising the Perotto Ice DJ toy is wacky, as one would expect from the style of Pikotaro. If you love his previous songs and music videos, you would definitely love this one, too!
As for Pikotaro’s favorite popsicle flavor, it is probably safe to assume that it is orange juice as he came out with a song entitled “I Like OJ” in early 2017.
Will this song and music video for the Perotto Ice DJ toy become viral? Although that is unlikely to happen as the lyrics are in Japanese, 2017 seems to be a fruitful year for Pikotaro. Other than the mentioned promotion video, he has also been hired to advertise SUMMER SONIC which is one of the biggest music festivals in Japan!
