Catch a Popular Japanese Voice Actor Perform Live This November in Chiba!

    Junichi Suwabe

    As a voice actor, Junichi Suwabe has played countless roles behind the camera. Among the most notable and recent ones were as Victor Nikiforov in Yuri!!! on Ice, Daiki Aomine in Kuroko’s Basketball, and Ren Jinguji in Uta no Prince-sama. He was awarded “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” at the 7th Seiyu Awards in 2013 for his role as Seiji Matoba in Natsume Yuujinchou Shi. As part of the idol group ST☆RISH in the visual novel series Uta no Prince-sama, he also received the award for “Best Musical Performance” at the 6th Seiyu Awards in 2012.

    The Black Prince Storyline

    The Black Prince is set 600 years ago in the Kingdom of England which has become plagued by the 100-year war against France. In this battlefield littered with blood and death, a knight wearing a jet black armor appears.

    The story centers on Edward, the Black Prince, who is considered a military genius and has taken part in the major battles of the 100-year war. John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster, is a brother to Edward and second in line to the throne. He is favored for the throne with the support of aristocrats.

    Most of the characters in The Black Prince, including Edward and John of Gaunt, are inspired by real-life historical figures of the same names.

    Cast, Performers, and Staff

    Protagonist Edward is played by voice actor Kenichi Suzumura. He and Junichi Suwabe have worked together in past projects such as Uta no Prince-sama where he played Masato Hijirikawa and Kuroko’s Basketball as Atsushi Murasakibara. Junichi Suwabe takes the role of the Duke of Lancaster. Actor, voice actor, and singer Hiroki Takahashi joins the two in the English Army as Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland.

    Additional cast includes Romi Park as John Hawkwood, the strongest mercenary of the French Army. Aki Asakura is Chrodechilidis, the witch who becomes the black knight to protect his younger brother, Deflotte, who is played by Rie Kugimiya.

    There will also be live music during the stage performance. Composer and cello player Toshiyuki Muranaka serves as the music director. He will be joined by talented musicians such as Chihiro Yamazaki, Hisako Sugita, Kenta Yasuda, percussionist Toshiyuki Muranaka, Kento Takasugi, tatsuya, Yasutaka Nakajima, Jill, and Yuya Yanagihara.

    The original screenplay was written by Bun-o Fujisawa who also serves as the director.

    Schedule, Venue, and Tickets

    The Black Prince opens for a limited two-day run this November 4 to 5, 2017, at the Maihama Amphitheater. There will be two shows per day, with one performance in the afternoon and one in the evening.

    Tickets are sold online through Ticket Pia (Japanese only). Regular tickets are sold at 9,800 yen inclusive of tax. There are also two other ticket bundles to choose from with different bonus items. Option A includes a copy of the script, while Option B includes a PLAYBUTTON which is a digital audio player. Both ticket bundles are sold at 13,000 yen each. The bonus items are available in limited quantities and will not be sold separately during the event.
