Finding a job in Tokyo

I am married to a Japanese national and have lived in Tokyo for half a year now. I have studied Japanese and my level is around JLPT 4/3.

Does any of you know of any websites or recruiters that are good for finding work here (for foreigners)? I am not too picky about what I do, but teaching English is probably not an option as I am not a native speaker… Anything else will be fine.

Any advice or experiences are much appreciated, thank you!

Hi, I’ve been in Tokyo for about 6 months and managed to find a job fairly easily a month after arriving using Craigslist – and my Japanese speaking ability is minimal.

Agree with cocoabroad! Craigslist has an array of random jobs and isn’t covered in teaching ads like Gaijinpot. Daijob is pretty nice too, but most of the jobs require you to have a pretty good Japanese level…

If you don’t mind the idea of teaching, though, non-native speakers can be hired at Eikaiwa if they speak fluently. Many of my coworkers at my old job were from countries like Denmark, Czech, Portugal, Russia, etc.

Thank you guys so much for your advice, I checked out the websites and it looks like there are some pretty interesting job opportunities for me. Arigatou!

Re Eikawa – just wondering, are you referring to non-native Japanese speakers? Does this include teaching English?

Oh sorry! I mean non-native English speakers can be hired at eikaiwa to teach English. :)

Isn’t craigslist sketchy??

dear skeptic,

craigslist might be sketchy. but you just have to be careful with everything that you find there. there are still some legit stuff posted on there. just double check and take extra precaution.

good luck on finding a job!

I got my current job from Craigslist and it’s just a normal office job :) There are legit ads in there, you just have to be careful and check the sources.
