What are the best themed cafes/restaurants in Tokyo?

I will be going to Tokyo for a 10-day holiday in May, and the one thing I want to do the most is to visit a few funny theme cafes or restaurants. I already know of the cat cafes and Alice in Wonderland themed restaurant, but does anyone know any other nice ones? Maybe also some that are not that famous yet?

Thanks for any tips!

I heard that the Kawaii Monster Cafe in Harajuku is good, but I haven’t been there yet.

If you’re interested at all in anything related to Square Enix, I’d recommend visiting their cafe. It’s called Artnia and it’s in Shinjuku. They have neat themed food and drink there, and you can also get cool Square Enix goods. I got some Final Fantasy stuff there a while ago. They also had goods for Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, etc. It’s a little pricey but it was definitely very cool.

There are also lots of cute character cafes popping up all over the place, but they usually require reservations.
And it’s not a cafe, but if you’re interested in a crazy izakaya, I recommend Lock Up!

Has anyone heard of or been to the Gundam Cafe? Where is it and is it near the big Gundam statue?

Hi June!

I haven’t been to the Gundam Cafe but I have seen the statue! iirc, the cafe is in Akihabara but the statue is in Odaiba. :)

Thanks heaps Heeyeon! Really appreciate it, will make sure I check out both before very soon! :-)

No problem! Although the Gundam statue on its own isn’t too exciting, the rest of Odaiba is awesome. haha Have you been there yet?

If you want something weird with an ‘only in Japan’ feel to it, go to the AKB48 cafe, it is actually right next to the Gundam cafe in Akihabara (on the big square right next to the station). The atmosphere in there was just so strange, but interesting. The food is not even too expensive and is palatable. The girls working there are really (graduates) from AKB48 the famous singing girl group, or at least fit the stereotype AKB48 girl.
