Hey guys. I just wanna ask where you think is the best place to go to in Japan for the winter holidays? I wanna skip out on places such as Hokkaido so it’ll be great if you can recommend other places. TIA!

Honestly, anywhere in Japan is a nice place. It really depends on what you want to do or what you want to see.

Great winter activities in Japan include:

– Skiing/snowboarding in Hakone or Nagano
– Seeing Mt. Fuji (the skies in Japan are clear and blue, promising decent views of the mountain)
– Most temples and things are less crowded so it’ll be a good time to see them while avoiding the usual crowds around cherry blossom season, etc

Hope that helps

Hi Gau,

What kind of things can you find in Tokyo Station? I am deciding whether to stay in that area or somewhere in the north when I come to Tokyo.

Tokyo is awesome for nice views. It’s very clear and sunny, though a little dry so be sure to stay hydrated.

If you like winter sports, Nagano or Hakone have great resorts for skiing and snowboarding!

Be careful if you go to Hokkaido as driving can be dangerous.

Have a great time!

If you want to skip out Hokkaido, I think that Kyoto is a great option. The ancient city is always beautiful in four seasons, but has unique view in winter when snowfall makes it a pure land.
I just had a travel to Japan last winter. Firstly I went Hokkaido then Kyoto and Tokyo. Honestly, Hokkaido is the perfect place to watch snow and ice views but Kyoto in winter has specific charm.
I recommend you a Japan travel app called Tourank. It’s tour map can show you all nearby attractions, hotels and restaurants, which really helped me a lot. Hope you it help too.

As I said in another thread, you can also consider going to Gifu in winter. The gassho-zukuri houses are extra beautiful when their roofs are covered in snow.
