In winter, Japan attracts many visitors with its numerous winter illuminations. Every city is decorated with fairy-tale-like scenes. It gives the cold Japanese winters a very poetic charm and as the cities are lit-up so are people’s hearts. There are many differents spots, especially in the Kanto area, where you can enjoy winter’s illuminations. From my own experiences, it’s hard to find this information in a guidebook.
Yomiuri Land is an amusement park located in the Tokyo prefecture. This place is famous for large and sumptuous illumination in winter. Every year, lots of people visit the park to enjoy its romantic atmosphere. If you want to go there, you have to get off at Keio Yomiuri Land station. However when you hop off there, at first you won’t see anything around and you’ll have to take a gondola from there (one way 300 yen/two-way 500 yen). Just after few minutes in the gondola, a world of light will capture your heart and your mind.
If you just want to see the illumination you can buy a ticket for 1000 yen for adults (from 18-years old), 500 yen for junior high school students and high school students and 600 yen for seniors (from 60-years old). If you also want to try some attractions, there is a “night pass ticket” which costs 1800 yen for adults and 1300 yen for children (from 3-years old to 18-years-old).
※Admission time is from 16:00 and it is open until 20:30(on 12/13~12/25 until 21:00).
Sagamiko pleasure forest includes an amusement park and outdoor facilities like a barbecue and camping place. It’s located in Kanagawa prefecture. If you want to go there please get off at “Sagamiko station” on the JR line, and from there take a “Tsukui kanakou” bus which goes to “Mikage bus stop” and take off at “pleasure forest mae”. There is a ferries wheel from which you can see all the view. There s a lot iof beautiful illumination, but my most favorite one is The Pink tunnel. Admission fee is 600 yen for adults and 400 yen for children from 3-years-old to elementary school students. It is open from 17:00~21:30.
Showa kinen kouen is a really large state-run park located in Tokyo. Actually, I really like this park in any season but especially during the winter. As there is a huge pond there, you’re able to admire the illuminations and its beautiful reflection in the water. If you go there on 12/23 or 12/24, you can also see special fireworks for Christmas celebrations.
If you want to go there, please get off at “Tachikawa station” on JR line or “Tachikawa kitaguchi station” on Tama monorail line. You can walk from both stations. Admission fee is 410 yen for people who are older than 15-years-old, 80 yen for elementary school students and junior high school students and 210 yen for seniors who are more than 65years old. It is open from 17:00~21:00.
