Looking for some city adventure during your travels in Japan? Then why not try these custom-made go-karts and drive around the streets of Osaka while wearing a cute costume? For two hours, you can enjoy Osaka’s famous sightseeing spots such as Osaka Castle, Tsutenkaku Tower, the busy shopping districts of Namba and Dotonbori, and other well-known streets in downtown Osaka!
MariCAR Street Go-Karting originally started in Tokyo, Japan and now has several branches across the country, including Yokohama, Okinawa, and Osaka. Since their grand opening in October 2016, go-karting in Osaka has been popular among foreign and local tourists alike.
MariCAR’s go-karts all are custom made, specially tailored for you to have a totally awesome real-life superhero street go-karting experience. Although these go-karts look a lot like Nintendo’s Mario Kart, this activity is not a racing game. It is entirely a recreational activity, which means no racing and throwing things to each other are allowed.
This go-karting experience will not be complete if you don’t wear a costume of your favorite character! There are a lot to choose from and they come in different sizes. So be ready for a cosplay-like experience and to feel as if you’re a celebrity as lots of eyes will be on you while you drive around the city.
Want to level up your go-karting? There are different gears available for rent or for sale that you can choose to make go-karting a more exciting and personalized experience.
If you don’t have your own action camera to record you and your friends’ driving experience, MariCAR offers action cameras for rent. If you want to listen to music while driving, there are also Bluetooth speakers available. Depending on the availability, you can also use communication bands so you can talk to your friends while driving.
Wondering if it’s safe to ride MariCAR’s custom-made karts? You don’t have to worry because all their go-karts comply with the local governing laws in Japan. Also, their company safety regulations exceed the safety requirements by police officials. Prior to driving around the city, staff will brief the drivers with a safety demonstration and tell them about driving formation and other information about the vehicle.
The regular price for the two-hour Osaka tour is 9,000 yen per person, while the SNS review price (if you are going to share your MariCAR experience on your social media accounts or blog) is 7,000 yen. This fee includes the go-kart rental fee, fuel cost, costume rental, driving guides, accident insurance, photo shooting, and consumption tax.
You can book your Osaka go-kart tour through MariCAR’s booking form, by telephone (+81-6-6131-5117), or via Facebook. Please take note that MariCAR’s go-karts are for public streets in Japan so you will need a valid driver’s license or an International Driving Permit to be able to join this activity.
Since the go-karts are only for valid drivers, non-drivers (no valid license/permit) are not allowed to board or drive them. However, non-drivers can still join the city go-karting tour. Depending on availability, you can board their Volkswagen Beetle, tuk-tuk, etc. to experience the city and take photos and videos of your group/friends. This costs 3,000 yen per person.
MariCAR Osaka is located at Ohiraki Souko-D-gou, 3-1-10, Ohiraki, Fukushima-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka, Japan. The fastest and most convenient way to get to their shop is by taking the train.
