If you ask anyone to name a type of Japanese food, it is highly likely that ramen is one of the first ones you will hear. Although it originated in China, ramen has evolved to gain massive popularity in Japan and comes with many kinds of broths and a variety of toppings such as meat, vegetables, egg, seaweed, and more.
Ramen’s range of flavors and ingredients make it a diverse dish that people love to eat, especially in winter, as a filling, delicious, and satisfying meal that goes well with gyoza dumplings and fried rice dishes. Every year, chefs are coming up with more varieties, and many regions of Japan have their own variety that they are proud of recommending to visitors.
There are several ramen festivals throughout the year in Japan that die-hard fans of this tasty dish love to attend. Now that winter is over and the warmer months are coming, outdoor festivals are coming back! For an exciting outdoor festival in the sun that focuses on ramen, check out RAMEN GIRLS FESTIVAL 2018!
Despite the name, this festival is not only for women. Everyone is welcome to slurp some noodles and explore new flavors. For a long time, Japanese women avoided ramen shops because of the heavy smell, rather huge portions, and the large amount of men who went to them. Nowadays, women can enjoy ramen just as much as men can, and that fact along with ramen in general is celebrated at this exciting festival.
There is a wide range of ramen types to choose from at the stalls, and you can also purchase beauty drinks at the main plaza. It is best to bring a huge appetite and to think carefully before you buy! Do you want extra meat? Garlic? Spicy? Something a little different? The festival has it all!
RAMEN GIRLS FESTIVAL 2018 will take place from 26th April to 6th May (1st May excluded) at Tokyo’s Nakano Shiki no Mori Park. Entry is free, but you need a ticket to get a bowl of ramen. The portions are quite generous, so it is a good idea to go as a group, buy one bowl each, and then share and compare flavors.
Some say that eating outside makes the food taste even better. This time of year is typically warm and sunny and the perfect season to eat some delicious ramen outdoors.
You can go to the RAMEN GIRLS FESTIVAL early in the day for a large lunch or later if you would prefer to go for dinner, but keep in mind that last orders are at 8:30 PM.
Nakano Shiki no Mori Park is home to several wonderful festivals throughout the year as well! If you would like to get your hands on some delicious ramen and celebrate the fact that women love this noodle broth dish as much as men, be sure to visit this festival in April 2018!
