Visit Madosh! the Avocado Specialty Cafe in Tokyo

  • If you’re a fan of avocado and can’t get enough of it like myself, I highly recommend Madosh! the avocado specialty cafe. Avocado is a fruit that is extremely high in nutrient value and flavor. It contains a lot of potassium, fiber, antioxidants and healthy monounsaturated fatty acids that are good for your heart’s wellbeing. With its healthy fats, avocados are extremely satisfying as they keep you full for a long period of time. Madosh! Cafe is a restaurant where you can enjoy loads of delicious avocado filled meals and drinks.

Madosh! Cafe has three locations throughout Tokyo. In Shimokitazawa, Shibuya Cat Street and in Harajuku. The Cat Street location and Harajuku location are pretty close to each other so if one is full there may be a chance that you can find a seat at the other one.

Located 3 minutes away from the north exit of Shimokitazawa Station on the Odakyu and Inokashira Lines, the Shimokitazawa Madosh! can be enjoyed both during the day and at night. Unlike the other locations, the Shimokitazawa Madosh! has a bar that fits the atmosphere of the artistic nightlife of Shimokitazawa. If you’re currently doubting whether avocado goes with alcohol, please do yourself a favor and visit the Madosh! at Shimokitazawa. The cafe is open from 11:30 AM to 11 PM (last order at 10 PM) on weekdays and Saturdays and from 11:30 AM to 10 PM (last order at 9 PM) on Sundays and holidays.

The Shibuya Cat Street location is located either 8 minutes away from Shibuya Station or 10 minutes away from Harajuku Station. The location itself is not very spacious but it is cozy and the waiter/waitresses are extremely friendly and helpful. If you order the dinner set menu, it comes with a main dish, an Avocado Spring Roll, an Avo-puccino, and all you can eat soup bar. I ordered the Avocado Taco Rice for my main dish and honestly, it was one of the best taco rice plates I have ever had and I highly recommend it. One of my friends that accompanied me, ordered the Smoked Salmon Avocado Rice Bowl and the other friend ordered the Tuna Rice Bowl. They were raving about it for days! You can get extra avocado on your main dish for free so, there is no reason not to get some extra servings of avocado. Lunch hours are from 11:30 AM to 3 PM, and dinner hours are from 5 PM to 11 PM (until 10 PM on Sunday).

The Harajuku Madosh! is located 5 minutes away from Meiji-Jingu Station on the Fukutoshin Line. The Harajuku location has a slightly more calm and natural atmosphere compared to the neon of the other two locations. Lunch hours are from 11:30 AM to 5 PM, and dinner hours are from 5 PM to 11 PM on weekdays. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, the cafe closes at 10 PM.

Madosh! offers a wide variety of avocado-based dishes and even a selection of vegetarian dishes.

I highly recommend the lunch combo or the dinner combo as it is extremely reasonable considering the amount of food you get from the combos. The lunch combo includes an Avo-puccino, the main dish of your choice, all you can eat soup bar, and a soft drink bar. The dinner combo is the same except that it also comes with a side dish (this seems to vary according to the location).

The lunch combo is 1800 yen while the dinner combo is 2400 yen. That might sound like a lot but you are actually saving about 200 yen by ordering the combo menu, instead of buying all the items individually.

When you visit Madosh! make sure to try out the famous Avo-puccino, a detoxifying avocado smoothie drink that you can customize with various flavored syrups to your liking. You might be thinking, a smoothie from an avocado? how could that taste good? I thought the same thing until I actually tried it, and I must say, those smoothies are absolutely delicious. I tried mine with the lychee syrup and it was amazing. If you want a meal absolutely filled with avocado, be sure to check out Madosh!.
