Hokkaido, the northernmost prefecture of Japan, is expecting to have an influx of tourists during the winter season due to its powdery snow and winter festivals. One of the most anticipated annual events happening this December is the opening of the Ice Village, which is located inside the Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, in central Hokkaido.
Various activities will take place for a limited period between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm (last entry at 9:30 pm). Check out these exciting and fulfilling winter activities below that the Ice Village has to offer for this winter season 2019-2020!
The grand opening of the Ice Village is scheduled for 10th of December, 2019. Pretty soon, right? However, don’t worry if you don’t have time to plan your trip to Japan, because there is plenty going on as the event lasts until 14th of March, 2020!
Making its debut in the Ice Village this year is the Ice Bakery & Café, where you will be able to find hot drinks and 15 kinds of bread on the frozen shelves. From December 10, 2019 to March 14, 2020, visitors can even choose to try the hot cheese fondue with bread by the fire for the ultimate warming up. The breads start from 550 yen, white coffee is 550 yen and the cheese fondue costs 5,500 yen.
Unleash your artistic and creative prowess in you as the Ice Atelier of Ice Village opens from December 10, 2019 until March 14, 2020. It offers fun and creative activities such as ice glass making where you get to make your own glass of ice from scratch, snowflake crystal keychain making, and freezing soap bubbles.
Fee: Ice glass making 1,650 yen
There is also a slide made of ice, considered a favorite by many, where both children and adults will surely enjoy.
Apart from the ice slide, there is also an ice rink where ice skating shoes are also available for rent at 1,100 yen for adults and 550 yen for elementary school students.
The Ice Bar will be concocting cocktails from December 10, 2019 until March 14, 2020. It offers more than 50 kinds of mixed drinks and other alcoholic beverages, which will be served in an ice glass. Enjoy having a drink while being surrounded by walls, cellars, and bar counters made of ice.
The Ice Chapel will be making its comeback to witness the celebration of love from January 18 to February 14, 2020. The whole structure is made of a single huge piece of ice, representing the undying love of the couple for each other. The interiors such as the crucifix, altar, and the benches are also made of ice. A free tour, which lasts for about 10 minutes, is conducted when there are no wedding ceremonies.
The Ice Hotel will open its doors once again from January 18 to February 29, 2020. Guests of Hoshino Resorts’ The Tower or Risonare Tomamu can have the unique experience of staying 1 night in this hotel and be surrounded by ice sculpted ceilings, walls, and furniture.
Advanced booking is required for an overnight stay at the Ice Hotel. Furthermore, the accommodation is priced at 25,300 yen per person per night including a morning soup.
Cap off your visit with some gift items at the Ice general store, which is available during the entire opening period. These ice and snow-themed souvenirs range from mugs to gloves and outerwear to protect yourself from the cold.
