I want to recommend for you the oldest and the most historical hot spring in Ehime Prefecture!

    Dogo Onsen (道後温泉)

Dogo Onsen has over 3000-year history. It is located in Matsuyama City. It was first written in Nihon-shoki, the Japanese second oldest historical book. There is myth telling that Prince Shotoku, and Emperor Showa Hirohito (昭和天皇 Showa Tenno) bathed in Dogo Onsen.

Dogo Onsen has also another popular legend. A long time ago, a wounded white heron found the hot spring and put its wounded leg in the water. The wound was quickly healed and the white heron was able to fly again. After that, people with various wounds started to go there to heal themselves. Moreover, sick people go there and feel better after they bath. If you want to visit Dogo onsen, it is easy to find many places to stay from decent guesthouses to high-class hotels in the area. Many of them are walking distance from the Dogo onsen.
Even if you stay in a different area of Matsuyama, transportations system is very useful.
You can use a tramw to go around the center of the city.

If you take a tram, you should know one thing that Matsuyama is famous because of Soseki Natsume’s Botchan.

When you want to go sightseeing in Matsuyama city after taking a good bath in the onsen, you should try to get on the Botchan Train which is a restored version of the original one. the price of tickets is reasonable for both adults and children. You can purchase 1 Day pass with only for 600yen for adult and 300yen for a child.
