If you have heard of the phenomenal PONPONPON, then you might be familiar with its singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ). KPP or Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is one of Japan’s iconic J-Pop artists. She’s well known for her unique fashion and music.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s name was Takemura Kiriko before her blossoming J-Pop career. She was a normal high school student when one of her street snaps landed her on the fashion magazine, KERA, in year 2009. With her unique fashion sense, she appeared in more Japanese magazines. The name “Kyary” was born when her classmates nicknamed her as such since they thought she looked like a foreigner when wearing a blonde wig. “Pamyu Pamyu” was later added after Kyary watched a skit by a Japanese comedian, Yagi Masumi. A year later, Kyary became more popular when she created her official Ameba blog. It was also in 2010 when she first released her digital single, “Miracle Orange” under Avex. Much more good news were announced in the following year since she released the unique PONPONPON produced by CAPSULE’s Yasutaka Nakata.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu received worldwide fame when her first ever music video, PONPONPON went viral on the Internet. Her first ever debut single, Tsukema Tsukeru, was released in January 2012. Gaining more popularity in Japan, she then released a second single entitled “CANDY CANDY”. Kyary already released 12 singles “Mondai Girl” being the latest one. What’s more, she also released three albums: “Pamyu Pamyu Revolution”, “Nanda Collection” and “Pika Pika Fantajin”.
Kyary will have a brand new single this September 2! The upcoming single, “Crazy Party Night ~Pumpkin no Gyakushu~, will feature a Halloween themed song by nobody other than Yasutaka Nakata. Yasutaka Nakata explains that the music for this single was influenced by Kyary’s love for fashion and by the club culture in the 90’s. Moreover, Kyary will also release a music video compilation in the same month.
