Japanese people love their slimy foods. It is believed that they are exceptionally healthy for your digestive system. In particular, the slimy goodies adhere to all the garbage in your tummy and intestines and clear it all out smoothly. Try some of the foods below if you have the chance!
A lot of foreign people avoid natto at all costs, due to the odd smell and sticky consistency. Come on! Give it a try! It is delicious and healthy. Natto is fermented soybeans, and comes with a range of sauces to add to it – salty, slightly sweet, spicy mustard. Seriously. Just try it. After all, Japanese people try meatloaf. Just saying.
My favourite is TopValu natto because of the small beans and delicious sauce. It is super cheap too, only 78 yen plus tax. Just writing this, I want to go buy a pack.

Mozuku is a type of seaweed. It can be eaten in a variety of ways, but one of the most popular ways is as a side dish, in light vinegar. You can pick it up at the grocery store, and sample a few different flavours. Mozuku is said to help with the digestive system and is very low calorie. Check out the info graph below for instructions on how to eat, and the website with great recipe ideas.
Mekabu
This is another kind of seaweed, which is sold dried, packaged, or mixed in with other ingredients. You can notice it by the green color, and slimy consistency. My personal favourite is of course, TopValu. They just can’t do wrong. It is a perfect topping for white rice, or just on its own as a snack between meals.
Why don’t you try some delicious Japanese sticky foods? Your tongue and digestive system will surely be happy!
