2 Top Japanese Comedy Dramas Bound to Make You ’LOL’

  • Japanese drama is known for its gimmick in engaging with the readers. There is a lot of TV series that have made me cry, and I believe that ones like ‘1 Litre of Tears’ can make some of us cry as well. However, if you are looking for a comedy drama to make ‘LOL’ (laugh out loud), here are the top two Japanese comedy dramas you do not want to miss!

    1. Manhattan Love Story

Starring Matsuoka Masahiro, known as Tencho. He is the owner and the main coffee master of the ‘Manhattan’ coffee shop, but he rarely speaks to his customers. He often observes customer behavior and speaks to himself. Instead, he depends on the assistant, Shinobu Gamo (Tsukamoto Takashi), to communicate with them.

Manhattan is a place where everyone has visited not just for coffee, but ‘dating’ also. Some even come to the shop in order to get something to eat, or watch TV. Throughout the story, Tencho has to observe and try to solve a complicated love story among his customers who tend to change their feelings all the time.

    2. Rebound

The struggle is real, who says ‘diet’ is that easy?! Rebound is a story of Nobuko (Aibu Saki), who failed in a relationship due to her overweight appearance. Her weight is going up and down throughout the story because she has a passion in eating cakes. However, she works in a fashion magazine company, so she has to maintain her skinny body all the time, or else she will be fired from her boss. After committing to a new relationship with the cake owner, she tries to avoid her temptation with eating a lot of cakes as she doesn’t want to gain weight ever again.

Despite the funny scenes in these 2 TV series, there are a lot of lessons that can be learned as well. If you are looking for something to relieve the stress, or just want to relax in the weekends, Manhattan Love Story and Rebound can be two ways to brighten up your day!
