Get to know Sugaya Risako – The Most Popular Member of Berryz Kobo

  • Sugaya Risako (菅谷梨沙子) is arguably the prettiest member of Berryz Kobo (Berryz工房). She is one of the main vocalists in Berryz Kobo and is also one of its most popular members. There used to be a rumor about Risako was of a mixed ancestry, but it appears that the rumors just stayed rumors.

    Berryz Kobo

Risako is the youngest member of the group and she debuted in Berryz Kobo at the age of 10 in 2004! She had mentioned that her favorite Berryz member was Natsuyaki Miyabi. She was best friends with Ishimura Maiha who unfortunately left the group in 2005. After that, she became closer to Kumai Yurina. She is probably the member who has the most diversity in hairstyles and clothes as you can see from Berry Kobo’s music videos. She has stated that she would not go back to having black hair while she is an idol unless her work demands it. Himitsu no is her favorite Berryz Kobo song. Risako is the not only the youngest Berry Kobo member but also the youngest out of all the Hello! Project members to come out with a solo photo book in 2006.

    Idol friends

She has many close friends in the idol industry that include Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ), Suzuki Airi (鈴木愛理) from C-ute, and Fukuda Kanon (福田花音) from ANGERME.

Risako once professed admiration towards SNSD. In 2014, she performed the Disney’s Frozen song “Let It Go” at M!Countdown Special Yokohama Arena along with some Korean artists Nickhun, Minah, P.O and G.O. Sadly, there seemed to be minimal communication and eye contact between her and the Korean artists even when she tried to make eye contact with them. My guess is that she was added to the performance at the last minute so she did not have much time to communicate with them beforehand.

Upon the disbandment of Berryz Kobo in March 2015, Risako said that she will be taking a break from the entertainment industry. She is only 21 years old which is too young to be quitting the entertainment business. Let’s hope that she gets her much-needed break and makes a comeback soon!
