Tsugunaga Momoko (嗣永桃子) is the most successful out of all the members in Berryz Kobo (Berryz工房) and she has also appeared in several variety shows. She is one of the main singers in Berryz Kobo and I think she has the best singing skills due to her distinct voice which is easily recognizable and she also has good control of her voice. As I see it, she is also the best dancer in her group.
Throughout her years in Berryz Kobo, she has only sported simple hairstyles and retains her black hair color. I think the reason is because Momoko is meant to have a childlike image, so her looks are kept as pure and natural as possible. At 149.8 cm, Momoko is the shortest member in Berryz Kobo. She is meant to be the cute idol so she constantly speaks in a squeaky voice and acts in a cute manner which people may find endearing or annoying.
As if her current cute character is not in-your-face enough, she has an enhanced cute version of her persona which is called Momochi. Momochi typically sports two pigtails which I am not fond of as it seems like the hairstyle makes her look older. The Momochi hairstyle was inspired by Seiko Matsuda’s hairstyle called ‘The Seiko-chan cut’.
In 2011, Momoko appeared on a Japanese comedy show, Mecha Mecha Iketeru (or Mechaike) in which she earned some recognition and established herself as an irritating idol which is known as ira-dol in Japanese.
Together with fellow Berryz Kobo member, Natsuyaki Miyabi and ‘C-ute’ member, Airi Suzuki, ‘Buono!’ was formed in which Momoko is the leader as she is the oldest among them. The group was originally formed to sing the theme songs for the anime Shugo Chara.
After the indefinite hiatus of Berryz Kobo in March 2015, Momoko joins the Country Girls as a playing manager. It seems like Momoko is the Berry Kobo member who enjoys being an idol the most as the other members went on to do other things while she remains active as an idol.
Love her or hate her, bear in mind that her cute persona is due to her job as an idol and her real persona might be completely different. So do you find her annoying or cute? I find her cutely annoying yet annoyingly cute!
