    1. The World’s Biggest Tuna came From Japan


    Japanese love their sushi. One particular popular kind of sushi is maguro – or tuna. The world’s most expensive tuna ever sold was a 222-kilogram Bluefin tuna. It was auctioned at Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market and went for an impressive total of 155.4 million yen, or 1.8 million dollars.

    2. Pokémon is From Japan

    There is hardly anyone now who doesn’t know Pokémon. The beloved anime series from Japan has been broadcasted in at least 74 different countries for almost 20 years now. In 1997, however, only a year after the start of the series, nearly 700 kids were rushed to hospitals after an episode that caused dizziness, vomiting and seizures was shown on a tv. The episode has since been banned.

    3. Sumo Wrestling is One of the Most Popular Sports

    Sumo is Japan’s national sport. But did you know that there’s a ‘Crying Sumo’ contest, where wrestlers compete to see who can make a baby cry first? This 400-year-old Japanese tradition at the annual Nakizumo festival is believed to bring good health to the infants.
