Den–Den Town: Osaka’s Otaku Paradise!

  • SPOT
  • When we mention Otaku Paradise, the first thing that comes to mind is always Akihabara. Yet if you are living / traveling in Kansai area, the nearest Otaku Paradise is always Nipponbashi (日本橋); or to fellow Otakus, better known as Den-Den Town!

    Den-Den Town

Located near Sakaisuji Line Ebisucho Station, Den-Den Town is very similar; and often compared to Akihabara (秋葉原). But unlike Akiba (short for Akihabara), Den-Den Town is not as crowded. Other than that, not much difference. With collectibles & figure retailers, manga & anime stores, card game shops, maid cafes and idol cafes spread throughout the district, it just feels like you are in Akiba. No wonder it is called “Akihabara of Western Japan 関西アキバ”!

If you are an Otaku and it is your first time visiting Den-Den Town, you have to check out ANIMATE store (アニメイト大阪日本橋)! It is very famous for selling different varieties of manga & anime goodies from soundtracks and seiyuu albums to key chains and can badges. If this is not enough, take the escalator up to MELONBOOKS and hunt again!

If you are also into trading card games, check out the card game shop C-LABO (カードラボ) on the 5th floor. They are selling all sorts of trading card games and also accessories for different card games (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cardfight! Vanguard, Weiss Schwartz, Sangoku Taisen, WiXoss…. etc ). Basically, this 5 story shared complex is an all-in-one paradise!

So what if you are not an Otaku? No worries! Den-Den Town is not only well known for its Otaku-related goodies, but it is also a famous shopping district for electric appliances! (The hiragana in its name: “Den でん” stands for “electric 電”.) TV’s, laptops, heaters… You name it! Plus, if you are a tourist, most shops are TAX FREE! (Remember to bring your passport along.)

Fellow Otakus, what are you waiting for? Just grab that cash and good luck hunting for rare goodies!
