Are you a fan of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ) and would like to see a different twist on her work? Then meet Hamada Bamyu Bamyu (浜田ばみゅばみゅ), the ojisan (uncle) version of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu! The character behind Hamada Bamyu Bamyu is Masatoshi Hamada (浜田雅功), a comedy veteran best known for being half of the popular comedy duo known as Downtown. You may have recognized him if you watch Gaki no Tsukai episodes.
Hamada Bamyu Bamyu released his debut single called “Nandeyanennen” on the 16th of December, 2015. Nande yanen is the equivalent of “what the hell” in the Kansai dialect. The music was produced by Yasutaka Nakata who also produces music for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.
In the music video, Hamada is seen sporting a rainbow-colored wig and he dances with three mascot characters which are a monkey, a bear, and a rabbit who have their tongues sticking out. The lyrics of the song are about Hamada’s desire to be cute even though he may not seem like it.
At about half mark of the video, Hamada had a transformation of clothes from his frilly pink butterfly-themed dress to a dress which has a purple gorilla face on the upper half of his body. The gorilla is probably a reference to how Hamada’s looks have always been compared to a gorilla by his comedian colleagues.
Hamada is also equipped with a paper fan which he then uses to hit the three mascots. The mascots get angry and chase after Hamada while riding on a giant cake prop. Hamada runs away at first but then turns back and uses his gorilla costume to fire a laser beam at them.
The music is so catchy that I can’t get it out of my head after listening to it just a couple of times. Even though Hamada may not look cute, at least the mascots and the props are! Are you hoping to see more of Hamada Pamyu Pamyu or would you rather stick to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu?
