Ikoino Yuyado Iroha Onsen: A Scenic Onsen With Plenty to Offer in Niseko Annupuri

  • SPOT
  • Ikoino Yuyado Iroha Onsen (formerly called Niseko Ikoinomura) is a beautiful onsen found in the hotel of the same name at the base of Niseko Annupuri Ski Resort. It is just 1 of over 15 onsens that you can find in the Niseko Resort Area that are worth a visit on a trip to Niseko.

    The Baths

This onsen, like most in Japan, is segregated into separate men’s and women’s bathing areas. The highlight of Ikoino Yuyado Iroha is the outdoor bath which is surrounded by boulders and trees and has a view out into the forest and Mt. Moiwa behind it.

In the winter months, the experience is really magical as the rocks are all covered in snow and from the right spot in the bath you can see skiers coming down the ridge of Mt. Moiwa. It is also a really relaxing experience to rest in the bath and have snowflakes falling on your face and a refreshing breeze on your shoulders.

Unique to this onsen is a stone bench set in the bath, which means you can still have your lower body immersed in the bath but your top half is chilling in the breeze. The walls surrounding the bath are not very high, though, so I imagine any intrepid hikers wandering through the forest in summer could sneak a peek from a distance.

Once you’ve had your fill of the outdoor bath, there is still a large indoor bath area that is split up into two separate baths with nice views out the window. There is also a bed type bath you lay in that is not as hot as the others and really sleep inducing. They also have a sauna and a cold plunge tub and it is nice to cycle between all of the options. I visited around 3:00 pm and I had the whole onsen to myself for most of my visit, so for a quieter stay, you should come in the early afternoon.

This onsen has pretty much everything you need to have a nice experience. The changing room has plenty of room to move with lots of free large lockers to store your belonging as well as an area of sinks with hair dryers and face products to get ready after you are done soaking.

Shampoo, conditioner and body soap is supplied in the baths and you will also find a pay-to-use massage chair and foot massager in the changing room area. The hotel also has other facilities for onsen day users including a relaxation room with tatami mat flooring and more massage chairs as well as a cafe that is open for lunch and dinner. The onsen and cafe have a cheap deal that includes a set meal and an onsen at a bargain price, that you can purchase from the same vending machine that you purchase your onsen and towel rental tickets from located near the hotel entrance.

    Location and More Information

The onsen is located right at the base of the Niseko Annupuri Ski Resort so it is a great option for visitors staying in Annupuri but is also located at the last stop of the Niseko United Shuttle Bus route so visitors staying in Hirafu or Niseko Village can easily catch the bus here.
