  • If you want to relax in a hotel with the atmosphere of a traditional therapeutic hot spring bath, you better head to one of the finest in the Jozankei area of Sapporo, the Shika-no-Yu Hot Spring Hotel. It was founded in 1927 and has since provided a warm traditional Japanese hospitality which kept guests coming. Here, you can also enjoy the true essence of Japanese hot spring culture while enjoying the surrounding nature.

    The Accommodation

There are primarily three types of rooms for guests to choose from: Japanese Room, Japanese and Western Room Twin Type and Japanese and Western Room 4 Bed Type. All of which have an air-conditioner/heater (which is really necessary in the northern part of Japan) as well as a television, bath, hot water cleaning toilet, a safe and a pot. Amenities included are towels, bath towels, toothbrushes, soap, a tea set, yukata and slippers. Tatami mats, an invaluable part of a Japanese house, can also be found in some rooms which are believed to provide coolness during summer and warmth during winter. It is a great experience to immerse yourself in the traditional atmosphere while enjoying your unique stay.

As Hokkaido is popularly known as a treasure trove of excellent cuisines, expect high-quality dishes which change with the season in the hotel. You can either enjoy your meal in a banquet or all-you-can-eat style buffet. The banquet mainly consists of 11 dishes and starts at 6:00 pm while the all-you-can-eat buffet includes 40 Japanese, Chinese and Western dishes from 5:30 pm to 8:45 pm.

The famous Shika-no-yu hot spring water is located in the large bath hall called “Zuiun.” The bath is rich in minerals. Since this is located indoors, you can also enjoy a jacuzzi outside where you can view the mountains and trees which create a magical scene as the night falls. Also, if you want to purchase famous Hokkaido sweets, you can head to a small store located in the charming lobby. There’s also a karaoke bar where you can enjoy singing and drinking!

With a location close to the mountains and springs, Shika-no-yu Hot Spring Hotel is definitely the best way to experience the true essence of Japanese onsen culture. Be sure not to miss this place whether you come during the summer or winter time as it is always enchanting all-year-round.
