Did you know that Fukuroda Falls, located in Daigo, Ibaraki Prefecture, is known to be one of the most beautiful destinations in the autumn season in Japan? It involves a combination of water coming from Taki River, just above the falls and joins the Kuji River below. Due to its foliage of flowers in spring and contrasting red leaves in autumn, it has definitely made a name for itself as the third most beautiful waterfall in Japan.
Fukuroda Falls has a width of 73 meters and a height of 120 meters. In summer, the place is surrounded by lush greenery which wraps around the entire place. In winter, it has the appearance of a glass sculpture due to sometimes freezing over. In spring, it exhibits beautiful blossoming flowers and autumn is just as gorgeous with the changing colors of the leaves.
Expect a large crowd of tourists especially during autumn as it is a very popular tourist attraction. Streets and stores are always packed with visitors and vendors. Many people line up eagerly in anticipation to catch a good glimpse of the falls in all its natural beauty. On top of that, a special viewing space has been built to accommodate the large crowds and involves a minimal entrance fee.
Some claim that the entrance passageway can be quite dark but once you get through it, you will be thrilled at the thundering beauty of the falls. You can access the top area (about 44 meters from the entrance) for viewing using an elevator. It provides you with a beautiful blend of the whole place, the cerulean sky, and the fall foliage.
Fukuroda Falls is a must-see for all visitors to Japan! So, hop on a train to Fukuroda JR Station or rent a car and travel via the Naka Interchange. Enjoy and embrace Fukuroda Falls and all its wondrous glory all year ’round!
