An area in Tochigi Prefecture which offers nature and a pleasant environment is known as “Okunikko.” Deep into its mountainous areas (above 1,300 meters) is a vast space boasting in splendid scenery, especially at night. The best place to view the starry night is at Okunikko Onsen where the sky spreads out naturally without any boundaries. You can also go to Senjogahara Marshland which is not only a popular hiking trail but also offers magnificent panoramic night views.
Minakami is located in Gunma Prefecture and is considered to be a grandiose display of natural beauty. It embodies a great mountain range and abundant hot springs. The starry night view is best seen at a remote hot spring town known as “Shima Onsen.” It is a quiet onsen resort located in the mountainous area perfect for stargazing activities. It takes approximately 2 hours to get to the place.
Nojimasaki Point is the southernmost part of Boso Peninsula. It is popular for its white lighthouse which is located on top of the cape. You can actually climb it to watch the stars at night or watch the Pacific Ocean waves.
