Filipino caregivers and nurses in Japan

  • In 2009 Japan opened opportunities for qualified Filipino nurses and healthcare providers(caregivers). The nurses and healthcare providers who’ve been qualified were required study Japanese or “Nihongo”. It is difficult to start a career in japan as a nurse or a health worker, because of the communication barrier. Japan offered an opportunity to learned basic “Nihongo”, so that Nurses and care workers could use it as a tool for communicating with the patients.

    The announcement was made by Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS) via the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). Because of dramatical increase in aged population of Japanese, they have opened opportunities for the Filipino nurses. And because Filipino nurses are also popular in caring professions, Japan didn’t hesitate long to start the project.

    This way both sides benefit. While Filipino nurses and care workers quality to care for the Japanese citizen. Japan also supports Filipino nurses by providing quality healthcare trainings and lectures, and the opportunity to study the Language. Therefore Japan is increasing its funds of medical and hospital caregivers in social welfare facilities and homecare industry. The Japanese government continues to study and implement wide-ranging reforming measures in its medical system.

    Aside from the fact that Japan is considered a stress-free workplace for nurses and care workers as they have standardized quality procedures for every patient, and quality equipment, people of the country are very cooperative, smart and accommodating. That’s why Japan is also known as a beautiful workplace and now an opened window for opportunities.
