Now You Can Wear Samurai Armor Daily Courtesy of the Samurai Hoodie!

  • Samurai armor is the embodiment of coolness and swag but let’s face it, the armor is just too bulky and ridiculous to wear on a typical day. A good in-between solution is to wear a samurai armor-inspired hoodie instead!

    The Creators

The person who came up with this really funky idea is Bamboo, the vocalist for the band named Milktub which mainly creates songs for anime and video games. Milktub is a Japanese duo music group which consists of Hiroshi Takeuchi who goes by the name Bamboo and is responsible for vocals, lyrics, music production, and composition; and Ichibanboshi Hikaru who plays the guitar and is responsible for music composition and arrangement. Among the anime they have provided songs for are Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu and Uchouten Kazoku.

By collaborating with studio696 which is the entertainment agency that manages the band, together they work on designing and creating the Samurai Armor hoodie based on Japanese samurai armor. In winter 2015 after 2 years of the development process, the prototype of the product was marketed and sold for 32,000 yen in Japan. And now, the design of the hoodie has been finalized! In an effort to make the hoodie available overseas, Tokyo Otaku Mode, which is a US-based company, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo that ran from the 25th of March 2016 to the 24th of April 2016. Therefore, if you are situated overseas and want to get a hand on this product, you can now purchase it here!

One look and anyone can see that the hoodie is obviously inspired by the samurai armor. There are 3 colors available which are black, white, and red.

The iconic plated look is applied on the hood and shoulder area.

The design of the hoodie includes buttons which allow wearers to attach their own tatemono crests on the front of the hood.

The kanji character “bu” (武) from “bushi” which appears at the back of the hoodie means (samurai) warrior.

The hoodie protects well against cold as it is twice the thickness of a regular hoodie. Besides that, there are also mask pieces which protect your face or neck against the wind and cold.

The hoodie also features a loop for the finger to make the design as close to the real thing as possible.
