Meet Sari Nakazawa, Japan’s Representative for This Year’s Miss Universe Pageant!

  • Many kinds of pageants are held in different countries all over the world and Japan is no exception. But of course, no other pageant would come close to one of the four biggest international pageants in the world which consist of the Miss International, Miss Earth, Miss World and the Miss Universe pageants.

Each participating country in the above pageant will bring out their own special qualities to proudly represent their country. So do you know who will represent Japan in this year’s Miss Universe pageant? If you don’t know her yet, then meet Sari Nakazawa (中沢沙理), Japan’s representative for this year’s Miss Universe pageant!

    Sari Nakazawa

Born on July 13, 1993, and currently 22 years old, Sari Nakazawa was crowned Miss Shiga 2016 and thus, she became eligible to compete in the Miss Universe Japan competition on March 1st, where she was crowned the winner.

Sari Nakazawa is a health sciences student and, standing at 171cm, is a model at the same time. She also likes to travel and has been to about 20 different countries around the world. Some of her unique experiences include overseas volunteer training and International Cooperation Project activities.

Sari Nakazawa said during the pageant that the person who influenced her most is Audrey Hepburn. She stated that Audrey Hepburn was not only beautiful on the outside, but also on the inside and she did a lot of charity work in her lifetime.

Japan may have had a bit of a controversy in last year’s Miss Universe pageant regarding backlash against representative Ariana Miyamoto for being half Japanese, but Ariana did her best and was placed in the top 10! Japan has produced two Miss Universe titleholders, Akiko Kojima(1959) and Riyo Mori (2007) since the pageant started in 1952. So for us Japanese, we’re hoping that this year’s representative, Sari Nakazawa, can take home the crown.

The Miss Universe pageant is an international competition so we’ll be rooting for each of our own country’s representatives. Let’s see who will take home the crown this year!
