Japan is one of the world’s best destinations for both skiing and snowboarding and it is thanks to a great density of the snow and, moreover, thanks to the breath-taking views that the Japanese mountains offer. In addition to that, Japan is taking advantage of the volcanic activities of the country since and therefore has an incredible number of natural hot springs; the so-called “Onsen” , at most of the ski resorts.
Here are our heartily recommended top 3 ski resorts that you should definitely visit and enjoy.
The first one is perhaps the best-known ski resort in Japan and it is located in Niseko, Hokkaido Prefecture. The easiest way to get there is to land at New Chitose airport and then take a 2h30 bus to Niseko. The ski season lasts from the late November until May.
Niseko’s resorts are popular due to the large amount of snow in the area but, furthermore, what makes Niseko special is the consistency of the lightest snow powder precipitation.
There are actually 4 resorts in Niseko but the largest one is Grand Hirafu which offers great restaurants and bars. The three other resorts are Niseko Village where you can find great hot springs, and Annupuri Resort where you can find holiday homes.
The second resort recommended is the Nozawa Onsen Snow Resort located in Nagano prefecture. This resort was built in 1923, so over 90 years ago, and hosted the biathlon competition of the Olympic Games of 1998. The resort is famous because of its good density snow powder but it is mostly due to its hot spring resorts and historical village.
My last recommendation is Fujiten Snow Resort, it is small and cosy and is also located at the northern base of the mighty Fuji Mountain. It is a perfect location for family or beginners so you can have quality time even if you’re not that good. moreover it’s located in Fuji 5 lakes region. It is the best for holidays with the family or friends if you like sports.
