Have you ever imagined what it might be like if you could have an actual ice cream sandwich? Not one with two cookies sandwiching a scoop of ice cream, but one made with actual bread – and not just any kind of bread, bread from the famous boulangerie MAISON KAYSER (メゾンカイザー).
For a limited time from April 19th until May 9th, 2017, Häagen-Dazs and MAISON KAYSER will be collaborating to open a Häagen-Dazs BAKERY (ハーゲンダッツ初のベーカリー) within the MAISON KAYSER Cafe in Marunouchi (丸の内), Tokyo (東京).

This collaboration came about from the summer special Häagen-Dazs SUMMER TERRACE (ハーゲンダッツサマーテラス) that opened in 2016. Their menu that used the croissants from MAISON KAYSER and their ice cream happened to be one of the most popular items from the SUMMER TERRACE, so this upcoming collaboration will be expanding on the popular dessert. There will be 14 new original menus, six for take-out and eight for eat-in, that each feature Häagen-Dazs ice cream and MAISON KAYSER bread.
1. Croissant Hat with Vanilla (クロワッサンハット with “バニラ”) – 600 yen
The Croissant Hat with Vanilla features a thick vanilla ice cream with a lemon peel filled brioche and a little hat made from a croissant to top it off.
2. Délice Blanc with Strawberry (デリスブラン with “ストロベリー”) – 600 yen
The Délice Blancs from MAISON KAYSER have white chocolate folded into the dough and its flavor matches perfectly with the sweet and sour strawberry ice cream.
3. Petit Brioche with Green Tea (プチブリオッシュシュクル with “グリーンティー”) – 600 yen
The brioche is made from a fragrant fermented butter and goes with the slightly bitter yet refreshing taste of the green tea ice cream. The petit brioche is topped with a sauce made from mixing custard and whipped cream.
4. Pain au Cacao Cocoa with Macadamia Nuts (パンオカカオココ with “マカデミアナッツ”) – 600 yen
The pain au cacao cocoa is a kind of bread that has a fluffy and doughy texture on the inside with a crispy outside. The interesting texture and the perfectly bitter chocolate dough sprinkled with coconut shavings goes perfectly with the sweet macadamia nut ice cream.
5. Viennoise au Chocolat with Cookies and Cream (ヴィエノワーズショコラ with “クッキー&クリーム”) – 600 yen
The viennoise au chocolat is a type of softer baguette filled with chocolate chips and goes perfectly with the textured cookies and cream ice cream and the roasted almond slices.
6. Croissant with Vanilla and Chocolate Brownie (クロワッサン with “バニラ” & “チョコレートブラウニー”) – 600 yen
The croissant with vanilla and chocolate brownie ice cream is a twist on the original menu from the SUMMER TERRACE of 2016. The sweet and sour syrup-coated fruits complement the chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream.
1. Croissant aux Amandes with Vanilla (クロワッサンオザマンド with “バニラ”) – 1,300 yen
The croissant aux amandes features a croissant baked in rum syrup and almond cream, topped with a lot of berries, berry sauce, and two scoops of Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream.
2. Kouign Amann with Vanilla (クイニーアマン with “バニラ”) – 1,100 yen
The Kouign Amann with Vanilla is made up of a danish filled with butter, topped with caramel sauce, sandwiching a scoop of vanilla ice cream. There are slices of sautéed apples on the side to add an interesting twist of flavor to the plate.
3. Danish with Strawberry (デニッシュ with “ストロベリー”) – 1,100 yen
The danish in this plate is baked with custard cream sandwiched in. The sweetness of the danish and the sourness of the strawberry sauce and strawberry ice cream make an amazing blend of flavors in your mouth.
4. Chausson aux Pommes with Green Tea (ショソンオポム with “グリーンティー”) – 1,300 yen
Chausson aux pommes are a twist on apple pies and the slight bitterness of the green tea ice cream contrasts the fresh and sweet apple compote wrapped in a pie crust.
5. French Toast with Chocolate Brownie (フレンチトースト with “チョコレートブラウニー”) – 1,300 yen
The freshly made fluffy french toast is topped with a roasted banana and one of Häagen-Dazs’ most popular chocolate brownie ice cream scoops.
6. Hot Brownie with Cookies and Cream (ホットブラウニー with “クッキー&クリーム”) – 1,000 yen
The cold cookies and cream ice cream perfectly contrasts the thick and hot brownie. The plate is topped with some fruits and a berry and apricot sauce.
7. Blueberry Rustique with Strawberry (ブルーベリーリュスティック with “ストロベリー”) – 1,200 yen
The rustiques are made with natural yeast and have blueberries folded into the dough, making them perfect matches for the strawberry ice cream. The two types of sweet and sourness from both the strawberries and the blueberries are complemented by some cream cheese cubes and pistachios.
8. Baguette Monge with Häagen-Dazs (バゲットモンジュ with Häagen-Dazs) – 1,300 yen
The Baguette Monge plate is filled with slices of baguettes with maple syrup and six mini scoops of the most popular Häagen-Dazs ice cream flavors. This menu item is perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy the different flavor combinations and how each one has its unique way of complementing the bread from MAISON KAYSER.
