Are you looking for a place to enjoy a filling, cozy breakfast with delicious soup and bread? Then you better check out potage! potage is, as the name suggests, a potage (a thick soup) specialty restaurant that serves bouillon-based vegetable soups, homemade bread, and handmade baked sweets.
Located eight minutes away from the Jiyugaoka Station (自由が丘駅) on the Tokyu Toyoko (東急東横) and Tokyu Oimachi (東急大井町) Lines, this cafe is single-handedly run by the owner chef who studied in French restaurants and boulangeries. Opened in 2012, this small cafe has an extremely cozy atmosphere.
With the recipes that the owner acquired through his French chef days, the soups at potage are cooked for over four hours. There is a delicate balance between the sweetness of the vegetable themselves and the amount of onion and cream that are included in each batch, making for a gentle, warming dish.
There are constantly five flavors of soups available but they differ according to the season. The current line-up of soups is green peas potage, lentil potage, tomato soup curry, and a seasonal vegetable potage. Out of the items on the menu, the green peas potage is the most popular. One more upcoming item on the menu is the carotene potage which consists of pumpkin and carrots.
The cafe is open from 8:00 in the morning and you can enjoy their soups from that time as well. Their morning sets, available from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, consist of a potage of your choice (chosen from two types), homemade bread, and yogurt.
Their lunch sets (1,010 yen~), which are available from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm, consist of a potage of your choice, homemade bread and deli, a handmade sweet, and drink.
There is a showcase in the store that constantly holds over 20 types of bread. You can eat them in store or buy them for take-out. The owner chef has studied as a baker in France as well, and each kind of bread is unique and extremely delicious. The owner’s creative pieces are sure to become your new favorite kinds of bread. For example, there is bread using an apple vinegar syrup-soaked plum, a unique kind of melon bread that has caramel sauce on the inside coated with homemade vanilla sugar, or even bread like lentil paste bread rolls.
potage also has an extensive list of drinks and other food items available to accompany their delicious soups. These drinks and food items are available from 8:00 am to 10:00 am and from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm.
