Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience tea time like Marie Antoinette did in France back in the late 18th century? This queen knew how to have a proper tea time and has become a symbol of wealth and fashion.
Interestingly, there is a dessert buffet event that is going to be held from the 1st of July until the 30th of September 2017 with the theme of “Marie Antoinette’s Wedding (マリー・アントワネットの結婚)” at the Marble Lounge of the Hilton Tokyo located in Shinjuku (新宿). Check it out!
The Marble Lounge at the Hilton Tokyo is one of the largest restaurants in the Hilton that provides an extensive buffet menu from the early hours of the morning into late evening. With a large spiral staircase, the Marble Lounge offers a complete dining experience.
Marie Antoinette was once called “France’s rose” for her beauty, fashion, and lifestyle as the Queen of France. This dessert buffet that is going to be held at the Hilton Tokyo is based on her marriage. Once you enter the rose arch at the entrance of the lounge, you will probably stop dead in your tracks as you take in the glamorous world that the lounge has been transformed into. With mirrors, chandeliers, wedding cakes, parasols, and pastel furniture, the lounge will take you back to late 18th-century France.
The desserts available at the buffet are all rose or fruit themed and there will be over 30 items which you can choose from. For example, the meringue chantilly named “France’s Rose” is a rose-scented meringue topped with a raspberry and rose cream finished with a rose petal. The “Nouvelle Marié” is a peach and white chocolate mousse topped with a delicate lace design white chocolate piece. The “Religieuse” is a cream puff made in the shape of the bride’s hat. All of the desserts are based on different aspects of Marie Antoinette’s wedding and creates a wonderful and fantastic atmosphere within the lounge.
Along with the extensive list of desserts, there will also be two different chocolate fondue fountains and cold marble ice cream (the kind of ice cream that is kneaded on top of cold marble), along with small meals such as sandwiches and pasta.
One of the most notable items on the dessert menu is the “Marie Antoinette Antique Cake.” This cake is supposed to be an accurate recreation of the type of cake that Marie Antoinette actually ate. It is a lemon-scented apple pound cake with a pink sugar coating. This cake goes perfectly with the Marie-Antoinette tea from the French tea brand, NINA’S. The brand itself was founded in 1672 and served Marie Antoinette during her reign.
This brand uses tea leaves from the Potager du Roi, the Kitchen Garden of the King, located near the Palace of Versailles which produced fresh vegetables and fruits for the court of Louis XIV. The tea has the scents of apples and roses and is extremely rare and unique, so make sure to try some of it along with your slice of “Marie Antoinette Antique Cake” to get the full Marie Antoinette experience.
The buffet will take place every day from July 1st to September 30th, 2017 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. It is 3,800 yen plus tax for adults on weekdays, and 3,920 yen plus tax on weekends and holidays. Make sure to make a seat reservation beforehand via this page!
