  • The world of fantasy brings out the most creative and imaginative side of a person. When it comes to fantasy, Alice in Wonderland is one that is fairly known in Japan. There have been numerous occasions where it was featured in pop-up shops, as well as in themed cafes and restaurants.

But you can experience more than that by entering the fantasy world that is the Alice on Wednesday (水曜日のアリス) shop!

    Alice on Wednesday

Alice on Wednesday is a beautiful Alice in Wonderland motif shop located in Harajuku (原宿). The shop first opened its doors in October of 2014, and it provides a variety of delicious sweets and cute accessories among others.

The entrance to the shop is also quite artistic as you’ll have to guess which of the doors will take you inside. (Which door does Alice take?)

The shop consists of three floors, each showcasing a number of characters from the Alice in Wonderland story.

    First Floor

On the first floor of the shop is the White Queen’s Kitchen. Here you’ll find a variety of original sweets like popcorn and marshmallow, but what you shouldn’t miss are the “Drink Me” potion drinks which Alice drank to shrink herself to fit into the door, and the “Eat Me” cookies which helped her grow back to normal.

    Second Floor

And lastly, on the third floor of the shop is where you’ll find the Mad Hatter’s Atelier. The items found on this floor are mainly Alice in Wonderland-themed miscellaneous goods like umbrellas, shirts, melting clocks, tote bags, and more.

    Other Branches

Aside from the branch in Harajuku, fans of Alice in Wonderland can also find other shops in Japan if they don’t have an easy access to Tokyo (東京)! There are three more shops in Fukuoka (福岡), Osaka (大阪), and Nagoya (名古屋), all of which also provide delicious sweets and cute accessories.

The Alice on Wednesday in Harajuku is open every day from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. There are circumstances where the shop gets crowded and the number of customers inside is controlled.

While Alice in Wonderland themed cafes and restaurants are undoubtedly popular places to grab a bite or drink from, Alice on Wednesday, on the other hand, is sure to give all you Alice in Wonderland fans out there a great selection of sweets and goods to choose from. If you’re visiting Tokyo or any part of Japan that has an Alice on Wednesday shop, you’ll surely want to drop by and buy some goods and souvenirs! You’ll definitely have a great time looking at the merchandise available. So be sure to drop by and make your Wednesdays a whole lot brighter!
