Have you ever wondered what you could do to brighten or change up your room decor or your office desk? Why not try a herbarium from LUFF?
LUFF Flower & Plants WORKS is a plant and flower shop in Kiyosumi Shirakawa (清澄白河). It is located four minutes away from Kiyosumi-shirakawa Station on the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line (東京メトロ半蔵門線).
The shop interior of LUFF is like a miniature jungle or forest. The shop is filled with various house plants and greenery, creating a lively energy. The shop specializes in helping its customers create bouquets, flower arrangements, garden designs, etc.
Many people stop by LUFF to find flowers to send as gifts or to use as interior decorations for both their homes and offices. Various types of people come here for different reasons – whether it is to buy a single flower or to simply enjoy the shop’s flower and plant-filled interior.
One of the unique things about LUFF is their cute and playful shop item signs and Facebook posts. The playfulness of the owner is highly evident in their cute posts. The owner chooses each of the plants sold at LUFF and, apparently, every time a plant gets sold, he gets a bit sad because it feels like he is giving away one of his children. Be sure to check out their Facebook page as well if you want more information on LUFF!
One of the most interesting items available at LUFF is their herbariums. What are herbariums? I honestly have never heard of them until I visited LUFF so no sweat if you don’t know!
The word “herbarium” usually points to a collection of preserved plant specimens and associated data used for scientific studies. The species can either be whole plants or parts of plants, but in the case of LUFF, their herbariums are, of course, not for scientific study but mainly for decoration purposes.
The herbariums at LUFF are plant pieces placed inside of glass bottles along with a special preservation liquid. The owner wanted to create an easy-to-take-care-of interior plant decor. The colorful herbariums do not require any kind of care or upkeep, and the flowers and plants inside keep their freshness and color for over a year. Their colors will change ever so slightly but is barely noticeable. These herbariums are extremely popular as interior items for the customers themselves and also as gifts for others.
There are two types of herbariums available. Type A is more of a slim bottle and costs 1,800 yen plus tax, while type B is more of a large jar and costs 2,700 yen plus tax.
If you are too far from the LUFF shop, don’t worry as you can still get a hold of one of these herbariums via their website. However, due to the owner’s motto to only provide things that he is completely happy with and the store’s small-scale nature (it is run by the owner and one other person), the herbariums are only available to order if you are okay with waiting for as long as it takes LUFF to provide them. If you are looking for a herbarium to send as a present for a specific occasion, I highly suggest that you visit the store directly to make sure that you can get a hold of these adorable plant preserves.
If you are in the area, I highly recommend visiting LUFF. Even if you aren’t looking for anything in particular, one of their plants might intrigue you. Or you can just enjoy the relaxing environment that is LUFF.
