Feeling Adventurous? Skydive and See What Tokyo Has to Offer From Up Above!

  • When we travel, we always tend to look up to skyscrapers, mountains, and huge natural or man-made attractions. However, instead of looking up, have you ever tried considering looking down on some of the amazing tourist icons that can be seen in Japan? If you have the courage to jump from 12,500 feet, gear up and visit the closest skydiving spot from Tokyo!

Although there are tons of skydiving sites in Japan like the one we featured back in 2015, the closest one that you can go to from Tokyo, where you will be able to have a glimpse of Mt. Fuji (富士山), Tokyo Tower (東京タワー), Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー), Tokyo Bay (東京湾), and other interesting tourist attractions, is the Tokyo Skydiving Club (東京スカイダイビングクラブ). Although the company name implies skydiving in Tokyo, the skydiving site is actually located in Kawajima, Saitama.

In order to make a reservation, you need to visit their website linked down below. You will be asked to give your personal information such as your name, age, the place you are staying in, height, and weight. Although you can make reservations a week ahead, the summer season is quite busy for them so it is better to make one a month ahead instead!

Upon registering, you also have to choose your skydiving package. They have the basic tandem jump (32,000 yen), tandem jump with a hand camera (40,000 yen), and tandem jump with a cameraman that will take your pictures and videos (48,000 yen). All prices include tax, and after your jump, you are not obliged to give a tip to your diving instructor as per Japanese custom.

The skydiving site is a private airfield in Kawajima Town, Hiki District – Honda Airport. To access the site, you need to ride the Tobu Tojo Line (東武東上線) from Ikebukuro (池袋). The train ride takes approximately 40 minutes and the train ticket costs 470 yen. Then from Kawagoe, you need to ride a bus for approximately 20 to 30 minutes. It is highly recommended for you to arrive at least 30 minutes early so you can prepare yourself.

Also, the restroom is approximately 400 meters away from the reception area where you will be oriented. So if ever you start getting nervous and decide to go on a short restroom break before your jump, just walking back and forth will surely take you approximately 15 minutes. So be sure to arrive early.

Upon completing the registration, the receptionist will be asking you to show your passport. Then, you will be paired with an instructor. Most instructors can speak English fluently and they all have a great sense of humor! So that will surely kill your nervousness.

As your name is called, your instructor will be gearing you up and will brief you with the DOs and DON’Ts in skydiving. From there, you will get to ride the plane and jump your way back down.

The free fall takes approximately 50 seconds and the parachute going down takes roughly around 10 minutes. Most instructors tend to give a visual tour of the scenery – showing where Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Bay, and so on are located – after the parachute has been released. So during that time, just relax your shoulders and enjoy the scenery from above.

This is indeed a one-of-a-kind experience! It will make you feel big seeing all the gigantic structures smaller and from above! Just be sure to wear comfortable clothes and tie your shoes properly or your shoes might end up flying alongside with you in the air.
