On the Hunt for Unique and Colorful Souvenirs in Japan? Check This Shop in Tokyo!

  • Have you ever heard of “pixel art”? If you happen to play Minecraft, one of the best-selling PC games in history, then I’m sure you are familiar with it. This form of art uses images edited on the pixel level, which was originally used in the older versions of video games. Its popularity has led to the opening of “TOKYO PiXEL.”, a shop in Japan where you can find a variety of “pixelated” items from t-shirts to mugs, clocks, toothbrushes, and so on. Check it out!

    The Shop Owner

Located near Asakusa in Tokyo, TOKYO PiXEL. is a shop owned by Makoto Oozu, an artist who is well known for his cross stitch art in Japan. He is also a pixel designer who, at first, started working in a handicraft goods shop after graduating from university.

Later on, Oozu decided to become an independent cross stitch designer and made several designs suitable for all ages. His works earned him a good reputation and got him featured on television and in books. He also holds several workshops in order to make cross stitching accessible to everyone.

Oozu has also published some books, his latest one being “GAME & STITCH!” Besides cross stitch designs, he is also known for collaborating with some famous toys. His art merchandise is under the brand name “Oozu Makoto.” Aside from TOKYO PiXEL., he also owns other brands such as “THE MINT HOUSE” and “The Porcelains.”
